Got up early this morning to get a start on my new garden. I had been waiting for spring to arrive and here it is. As I gathered all my tools and my gloves and headed to the garden site, I could see in my mind, a lush garden full of herbs. vegetables and flowers. First on the agenda though was to clear out all the grass and weeds that had grown up in the fall and withered in the winter. I sank down to my knees and pulled on my gloves. As I attacked the brush around me, I saw a cement block. Now what was that doing in my garden? I reached to pull it out and something fluttered by my hand and behind my arm. I moved my arm, but what ever it was, appeared to be gone. I reached for the block again, and again, something fluttered past my hand and arm. This time I got a glimpse of something sheer and shiny. I stood up and looked around. Now this was odd. What was that. I acted like a butterfly or moth, but it was so fast, I was sure that wasn't what it was. I got back down on my hands and knees and stooped way down so I could look in the blocks opening. There, something was backed way up into the block and I could see it quivering toward the back of the hole. I got back up and went into the house. I had to find out what this was. I rounded up my old butterfly net and headed back to the garden. I got down on the ground again and this time I used the butterfly net to cover up the back of the block, then I reached in and something flew out the back and into the net. I sat up and grabbed the net and pulled it toward me. There inside, was a tiny little fairy. She had the longest silver hair with sparkles in it. Her wings shown with a glittering that went from pink to blue to yellow and back. She was beautiful. I could see her heart beating and she reminded me of a mouse I had caught in a trap that had gotten caught by the tail and was scared to death. I picked it up and carried it outside and set it loose, but on the way out, I could see his little heart beating like it was going to pop out of its body. I saw this now with the little fairy, as she fluttered and struggled to get away. I talked as soft and reassuring as I could and told her that I wasn't going to hurt her, I just wanted to see her up close and then I would let her go. Her heart slowed down and she quit trying to get away. I gently pulled the net closer and peered at the little fairy. She looked back at me and seemed to be studying me as much as I was her. I gently opened the top of the net and held it away from me. She sat there for a few minutes and then, as if she thought I might change my mind, she burst out of the net and landed on a tree branch above my head. I stood up slowly and looked up at her. She flew off the branch and down onto my shoulder. Now my heart was beating fast. She trusted me!! I stood there for a long time, not wanting to move for fear of scaring her, but I need not have worried. She was no longer frightened. It was starting to get late so I reached down and gathered up my garden tools and she flew off my shoulder and disappeared into the trees. I headed to the tool shed to put up my equiptment and headed for the house. Wait until tomorrow. I would be back in the garden early. Would she?
